Our Story
Where Concordia
was born.
Concordia Preschool was founded with a single conviction: that the earliest years of a child’s life are too important to leave to chance.
We set out to create something Fort Greene and Clinton Hill didn’t yet have, a truly bilingual preschool where every detail, from the size of the furniture to the language of the morning song, was designed with the child at the center.
Our brand new facility features spacious, carefully designed classrooms that give children room to explore, create, and grow. We believe that a beautiful, prepared environment is itself a teacher, one that signals to children that they are worth the effort.
Guided by the principles of Montessori and Reggio Emilia, we built Concordia to be a place where hands-on discovery, creative expression, and independent thinking are the rule, not the exception. Where childhood is celebrated, bilingualism blossoms, and the joy of learning grows every day.

We don’t follow a single rulebook. We draw from two of the world’s most respected early childhood traditions and weave them together into something uniquely Concordia.
The Montessori Approach
Developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, this approach treats each child as a naturally curious, self-directed learner. Our classrooms are carefully prepared environments, stocked with hands-on materials that invite children to explore at their own pace, build independence, and develop deep concentration. Teachers guide rather than instruct, following the child’s lead.
The Reggio Emilia Approach
Born in postwar Italy, Reggio Emilia sees children as capable, creative beings with a hundred languages of expression, through art, movement, music, storytelling, and play. Projects emerge from children’s own questions and curiosities. The environment is the “third teacher,” and families are essential partners in every child’s learning journey.
Bilingual from Day One
Language acquisition is most natural in the earliest years of life. At Concordia, children are immersed in English and French or Spanish from their very first day, not through drills or lessons, but through songs, stories, conversation, and play. Bilingualism builds bridges: between cultures, between people, and between ways of seeing the world.
Social & Emotional First
Academic skills matter, but they rest on a foundation of emotional intelligence, self-regulation, and the ability to form healthy relationships. At Concordia, we nurture kindness, empathy, and resilience alongside literacy and numeracy. We believe that a child who feels safe, valued, and confident is a child who is ready to learn anything.
