We don't follow a single rulebook. We draw from two of the world's most respected early childhood traditions and weave them together into something uniquely Concordia.
The First Five Years: Why They Matter Most
The first five years of a child's life are the most critical period of human development. During this time, the brain grows faster than at any other point, forming over one million new neural connections every single second. The experiences children have in these early years lay the foundation for everything that follows: how they think, how they learn, how they relate to others, and how they see themselves in the world. At Concordia, we take this responsibility deeply seriously. Every classroom, every material, every interaction is intentionally designed with these precious years in mind, because we believe that what happens here, now, matters for a lifetime.
Social & Emotional First
Academic skills matter, but they rest on a foundation of emotional intelligence, self-regulation, and the ability to form healthy relationships. At Concordia, we nurture kindness, empathy, and resilience alongside literacy and numeracy. We believe that a child who feels safe, valued, and confident is a child who is ready to learn anything.
Bilingual from Day One
Language acquisition is most natural in the earliest years of life. At Concordia, children are immersed in English and French or Spanish from their very first day, not through drills or lessons, but through songs, stories, conversation, and play. Bilingualism builds bridges: between cultures, between people, and between ways of seeing the world.
Our Approach: Where Two Philosophies Meet
At Concordia, we don't follow a single educational philosophy, we draw intentionally from two of the most respected approaches in early childhood education, combining the best of both to create a learning environment that is structured yet creative, nurturing yet intellectually rich. Every detail of our classrooms, materials, and daily rhythm reflects this thoughtful blend. As a result, Concordia is a place where children feel safe enough to take risks, curious enough to ask questions, and confident enough to find their own answers.
The Montessori Influence
At Concordia, we draw from the Montessori tradition by creating a calm, orderly, and intentionally prepared environment where children feel safe, focused, and free to explore. One of the most powerful gifts of Montessori is its use of hands-on materials that make abstract concepts tangible, children don't just hear about numbers or letters, they touch, manipulate, and discover them through beautiful carefully designed tools that make learning a physical, joyful experience. This approach builds deep understanding, independence, and a genuine love of learning from the very first years of life.
The Reggio Emilia Influence
From the Reggio Emilia philosophy, we embrace the idea that children are natural researchers, and that creativity is inseparable from learning. Our dedicated studio space is central to this approach, giving children the time, materials, and freedom to explore process art where the doing matters more than the finished product. There are no templates in the Atelier, no right answers, only curiosity, experimentation, and self-expression. We also document children's work and thinking, honoring their ideas as worthy of deep attention and reflection.
Our Teachers
At Concordia, we believe that the relationship between a child and their teacher is one of the most powerful forces in early development. That is why we are deeply intentional about who stands in our classrooms. Our educators are warm, loving, and genuinely devoted to the children in their care. They don't just teach, they listen, observe, and connect with each child as an individual. They bring patience, expertise, and a deep understanding of how young children grow and learn. Our teachers are not just educators, they are the heart of everything we do.
Kindergarten Readiness
At Concordia, we prepare children for kindergarten by building a deep, genuine foundation. By the time children graduate from our program, they are not just ready for what comes next, they are eager for it. Through our rich, intentional curriculum, children develop strong early literacy and numeracy skills, the ability to focus, follow multi-step directions, think critically, and work both independently and as part of a group. They enter kindergarten with curiosity, confidence, and the academic and social tools to thrive from day one, and to keep thriving long after.
